The river otter doesn't hibernate when it gets cold out.  He has a very thick coat of fur to keep him warm as he frolics and plays in the snow and on the ice not far from the town of Temagami.  He's very shy of people and that makes him kind of hard to capture on film.  But as long as he's not disturbed he's always on the move either swimming, sliding, running, or just playing.  He's an excellent diver.  He can close his nostrils completely and slow his pulse to 1/10th it's normal rate so he can conserve oxygen and stay underwater longer.
