The great blue heron stalks his prey slowly, carefully, waiting for the right moment to spring into action. Either he waits, motionless for dinner to come a little too close or he wades through the water until he stirs up a fish to eat. He feeds on small fish, frogs, reptiles, insects, small mammals and even other birds.
