Blue Jays are partially migratory: they won't leave the cold of the north entirely but will travel a few hundred kilometers south of their summer territory to escape the worst that winter has to offer. If you wonder whether or not that blue jay is the same one that was at your feeder last year there's a good chance he is. They have been known to live ten to fifteen years, often returning to the same places.
