The moose is the largest member of the deer
family: it can weigh up to eight hundred kilograms. It is a very powerful
swimmer, swimming up to nineteen kilometers. In summer it spends several
hours a day in the water, both to cool off and to avoid the bugs. It will
also dive over five meters to the lake bottom for food. Even moose calves
are excellent swimmers at only a few days of age.
